All hands on deck in Civil Operations

Council’s Civil Operations crews are working hard to continue to deliver major projects for our Region, with more than $6.7 million in construction work completed since 1 March this year.

Infrastructure Portfolio Spokesperson Councillor Tony Williams said crews adjusted quickly to the measures around COVID-19, and have delivered some great work.

“Like everywhere else, our Civil Operations teams have had to make some changes to how they operate in order to ensure their safety and the safety of our community,” said Cr Williams.

“As always, safety is our highest priority, and it has been fantastic to see that the need for these measures has been recognised by staff at every level.

“While work slowed for a period of time as we looked at how to implement these measures as an organisation, I have been very impressed with how quickly our staff and contractors have taken the new procedures in their stride.

“We currently have 168 full-time staff and 25 contractors working on projects across the Region. All 22 of our construction crews have continued to work throughout this period, along with seven maintenance crews, delivering exceptional work on some essential road and stormwater projects.

“This is a great opportunity to highlight the great work our crews do–not just at the moment but every day.”
