Ambulance Victoria wishes Happy Lunar New Year

Ambulance Victoria (AV) wishes its employees and community a Happy Lunar New Year.

Lunar New Year is the beginning of the new year based on the lunar calendar and celebrated by many different cultures.

The date for Lunar New Year changes every year according to the cycle of the moon, and this year it will begin on 10 February.

Ambulance Victoria Multicultural Program Lead Cherlyn Chia said that Lunar New Year for her is about food, loved ones, and gathering together.

Cherlyn Chia said Lunar New Year is a special time of the year that she looks forward to.

“It’s a really special time of the year that I always look forward to it – especially the chance to spend time with my close friends and family,” Cherlyn said.

“Given my family is in Singapore, I now usually see my friends and we celebrate over food. I make sure to always wear red and have snacks such as pineapple tarts and love letters.

“For Reunion Dinner tonight, my partner and I will be heading to a friend’s place where we will be making dumplings.”

Reunion Dinner is the annual dinner where family and friends come together on the eve of Lunar New Year.

“Over the next two days we will be going to different ‘open houses’ (where people open their houses to people to celebrate) so there will be lots of feasting,” Cherlyn said.

According to Chinese zodiac, 2024 is the year of the Dragon – the dragon represents strength, wisdom, luck and prosperity.

Ambulance Victoria recognises and celebrates the many cultures and events that are important to its workforce and the communities we serve. AV wishes everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Dragon!
