An update on our Climate Emergency Plan

On Tuesday 16 April, Councillors passed a resolution outlining our commitment and next steps for the development of our first Climate Emergency Plan.

The development of the Climate Emergency Plan will be a turning point in Yarra’s leadership on climate action.

  • Our Climate Emergency Plan will reflect the urgent, collaborative action required to combat climate change, and seek to lead transformational change through bold leadership by Council.
  • The Climate Emergency Plan will cover municipal wide actions that Council can influence and advocate on, as well as actions to reduce emissions our operations and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
  • A draft Climate Emergency Plan is expected to be ready for public feedback in September

While the Plan is being developed, we will continue to respond to the emergency, including via actions proposed in the Draft 19/20 Budget. To keep up to date with the development of this plan, and other sustainability and environmental actions in Yarra sign up to our Yarra environment enews.

This resolution was passed at the council meeting on Tuesday 16 April.
