Anne Hollonds appointed as new National Children’s Commissioner

The Federal Assistant Minister for Children and Families Michelle Landry has today congratulated Anne Hollonds on her appointment as Australia’s incoming National Children’s Commissioner.

Since September 2015, Ms Hollonds has been the Director of the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS). AIFS conducts major research into the wellbeing of Australian families, and communicates those findings to strengthen policy making and improve service delivery.

Assistant Minister Landry said Ms Hollonds’ role at AIFS, alongside her 20 years’ experience as a Senior Executive, including as CEO of Relationships Australia and the Benevolent Society, will be invaluable in her new role.

“I am thrilled that Ms Hollonds will be bringing her extensive knowledge, professionalism and expertise to this position,” Assistant Minister Landry said.

“Her contribution will be crucial as we continue to work towards doing what we can to ensure that every child born in Australia has the opportunity to be safe, supported and to reach their full potential.”

In particular, Assistant Minister Landry recognised that the National Children’s Commissioner would provide essential input into the development of the next children’s strategy to replace the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children (2009-2020).

“The Children’s Commissioner will have an important role in ensuring the voice of children is incorporated in a new approach for when the National Framework ends”, Assistant Minister Landry said.

“And on behalf of the Federal Government, I also extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to outgoing Commissioner Megan Mitchell for all of her achievements in this role.”

Ms Hollonds will complete her appointment as Director of AIFS before taking up her five-year appointment as Children’s Commissioner from 2 November 2020.
