Another Big Bash boost for Tasmania

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Government is thrilled by the announcement that an additional two matches of Big Bash League cricket will be played in Tasmania this season.

This announcement is fantastic news for Tasmanian cricket fans and will see the Hobart Hurricanes taking on the Melbourne Stars on the 2 and 4 of January, with the additional two games to be played at Hobart’s Blundstone Arena.

This brings the total number of matches to be played in Tasmania to 10, with eight being hosted at Blundstone Arena and two to be hosted at UTAS Stadium. The Hurricanes will play six of those games, five at Blundstone Arena and one at UTAS Stadium.

Both of the additional matches will be broadcast live on Fox, meaning additional exposure for our cricket loving state.

This follows the exciting announcement that Tasmania will be one of four states that will co-host the upcoming KFC BBL 10 competition. This is an amazing opportunity for all Tasmanians to experience some world-class matches boasting some of the world’s best talent, competing on the national stage this summer.

Public tickets for the matches go on sale on 27 November and I look forward to getting on board the Cane Train and attending some of the matches to cheer our side on.
