Another man charged over alleged Smithfield kidnapping – SF Kkuoa

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad have charged another man over an alleged kidnapping in Sydney’s west earlier this year.

About 5.20am on Thursday 9 March 2023, police allege that a group of armed men forced entry to a home on Brenan Street, Smithfield, where they forced a 26-year-old man into a vehicle.

The group fled the scene and police were notified a short time later. After extensive enquiries, the 21-year-old man was rescued by police on Tuesday 14 March 2023.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad – assisted by Fairfield City Police Area Command – established Strike Force Kkuoa to investigate this incident.

A number of people have already been arrested and charged in relation to this incident.

Following further inquiries, with the assistance of Australian Border Force and the Australian Federal Police, strike force detectives arrested a 20-year-old man at Sydney International Airport about 10am yesterday (Saturday 4 November 2023).

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with special aggravated break & enter commit serious indictable offence – weapon, take/detain in company with intent to ransom occasion actual bodily harm, cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, and possess unauthorised pistol.

The Oakhurst man was also charged with an unrelated robbery offence from Friday 3 March 2023 at Gladesville.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 5 November 2023).

Investigations under Strike Force Kkuoa continue.
