ANZSOG and City of Melbourne to host Jacinda Ardern address

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will deliver a speech in Melbourne on Thursday, at an event hosted by the City of Melbourne and the Australia and New Zealand School of Government.

Ms Ardern became Prime Minister of New Zealand in 2017. Earlier this year her Coalition Government gained worldwide acclaim for its compassionate leadership in response to the terror attack in Christchurch.

She leads a Government which is committed to a fairer and kinder society, one whose budget reports on the wellbeing of not only the economy but also of New Zealand’s people, communities and environment.

ANZSOG Dean and CEO Ken Smith said that ANZSOG was excited to be hosting a high-profile world leader in Australia.

“Ms Ardern is leading an innovative government which has just announced a major restructure of its public service, and major long-term investments in its citizens wellbeing,” Professor Smith said.

“Her address will deal with many of the issues that modern governments are grappling with, as they deal with an environment of growing uncertainty and declining trust in governments, while still trying to deliver public value for their citizens.”

“She will give us an insight into how New Zealand is working to change the role of government.”

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said the address will be hosted by the City of Melbourne at Melbourne Town Hall.

“Prime Minister Ardern has rightly been praised internationally for her response to the Christchurch terror attack, as well as for her caring and empathetic approach to leadership,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Good government is actually about our values, the respect we show each other and how we behave as a society. We are proud to host New Zealand’s Prime Minister at Town Hall and look forward to hearing from one of the world’s most respected and inspiring leaders.”
