Appeal after a suspicious fire at Wollongong, NSW

Police are appealing to the public for assistance following a suspicious fire in Wollongong earlier this week.

About 3.45am on Wednesday 11 November 2020, emergency services were called to a restaurant on Crown Street, Wollongong, following reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District arrived to find smoke coming from the roof of the building and a second fire in a detached toilet block at the back of the property.

After extinguishing the fire, police located a hammer, a large black knife and parts of a till.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze while police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.

Police would like to speak to two men they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries.

The first man is described as having an olive complexion, medium build and short brown hair. He was seen wearing a yellow stripe T-shirt, black shorts, dark joggers and a white cap.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, slim build. He was seen wearing a white T-shirt, long black pants, black shoes and a white cap.
