Appeal for information after man set on fire – Deniliquin

Police are appealing for information after a man was set alight at an event in the state’s south at the weekend.

About 6.40pm on Saturday (30 September 2023), emergency services responded to reports a man had been set alight within the campsite area at the Deniliquin Ute Muster.

A 22-year-old man was found suffering significant facial burns, after he was reportedly set on fire by a man attempting to ignite an aerosol nearby.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Alfred Hospital in Victoria, where he remains in a serious condition.

Officers attached Murray River Police District commenced an investigation into the incident.

As inquiries continue, investigators have released images of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man depicted is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his early 20s, about 170cm tall, and having brown hair in a mullet style.

He is shown wearing a green shirt, blue shorts with a yellow stripe, a red and black cap, and no shoes.
