Appeal for information after stealing from visually impaired man – Mt Druitt

Police are appealing for public assistance after a visually impaired man was the victim of a stealing in Sydney’s west last month.

About 1.30pm on Sunday 19 March 2023, a 72-year-old man was attempting to withdraw money from an ATM at a shopping centre in Mt Druitt; however, required assistance due to being visually impaired.

While waiting for staff to assist him, it’s alleged a woman approached him and offered to withdraw the money for him.

The man accepted the woman’s help and, as the transaction was being processed, the woman allegedly withdrew a larger amount than requested.

It’s further alleged she then fled with the cash.

Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command were notified about the incident where investigations commenced.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak with a woman who may be able to assist with the investigation.

She is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 18-23 years old, of thin build with brown hair.

At the time she was wearing a grey cropped t-shirt, light-blue ripped jeans, black thongs, a dark-coloured backpack, and glasses.
