Appeal for information over assault on light rail – Sydney CBD

Police have released images of a man they believe can assist in an investigation of a suspected domestic violence-related assault in the Sydney CBD.

Officers attached to Police Transport Command were told a woman was assaulted by a man about 5.50pm Sunday 17 December 2023, while waiting at the Chinatown light rail station, Haymarket.

During the assault the man hit the woman several times in the head before the pair boarded the light rail with a child and left the scene.

Following extensive investigations, police are hoping to talk to a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The man, who police believe is in his 40s, is described as being of Caucasian appearance with short dark hair which is balding on top.

At the time of the incident the man was wearing reading glasses, a blue T-shirt and blue denim shorts.
