Appeal for public assistance following attempted carjacking in Doveton

Southern Metro Regional Crime Squad are appealing for public assistance following an attempted carjacking in Doveton on 8 July.

It is alleged a male driver in a 2012 white Volkswagen Passat was travelling along the Princes Highway when he was tail gated by another driver in what’s believed to be a white stolen Toyota C-HR SUV about 1am.

It is understood the offending driver pulled in front of the Volkswagen, forcing the 22-year-old Doveton man to stop on Power Road.

The driver of the Toyota and three of his passengers got out of the vehicle, walked up to the other driver’s door and demanded he get out.

The victim reversed his car, sped off and the offender fired a single shot through the man’s windscreen.

The bullet missed the man and he wasn’t physically injured.

The offending vehicle was later found burnt out in Harkaway.

Detectives have released a computer-generated image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

He is described as a man in his mid-20’s, as being of Middle Eastern appearance, of medium build, wearing glasses, a grey Nike hoodie and black pants.

The investigation remains ongoing and no arrests have been made.
