Police are appealing for witnesses following a carjacking in Diggers Rest on 15 August.
Investigators have been told a male was seen walking in the middle of the Calder Freeway just before 5am.
Witnesses say he was holding a ‘rough surface’ roadworks sign, trying to pull vehicles over.
At around 5.30am a man was driving, entering the Calder Freeway from the Vineyard Road, Sunbury entry ramp.
The driver saw the man holding the sign on the side of the road and slowed his car to offer assistance.
The male with the sign then grabbed the man out of his vehicle, leaving him lying on the side of the road before getting into the victim’s car and driving away.
The 63-year-old Horsham man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The stolen vehicle, a 2023 black Ford F150 ute,, was later located in Melton.
