Police are appealing for public assistance to locate an elderly man missing from the Newcastle area.
Sam Summut, aged 76, was last seen leaving a hospital on Lookout Road, New Lambton Heights, about 4.45pm today (Wednesday 26 August 2026).
When he could not be located or contacted, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.
Police and family hold concerns for Sam’s welfare as he lives with a medical condition and his disappearance is out of character.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, of medium build, with grey hair and an unshaven face. Sam is also nonverbal and speaks via a device in his throat.
He was last seen wearing a grey hooded jumper, dark tracksuit pants, grey shoes and a black beanie.
Police believe he may be travelling to a property in Rutherford and may be using public transport around the Newcastle area.
