Education Minister Dr Tony Buti has today announced applications are open for the Bob Hawke Aboriginal Teacher Scholarships 2025.

The scholarships, offered annually, support Aboriginal people aspiring to be secondary teachers to complete a postgraduate or undergraduate university qualification.

The undergraduate scholarship is valued up to $30,000, while the postgraduate scholarship is valued up to $16,000.

Both scholarships include a $2,000 appointment allowance for those who start full-time employment as a teacher in a Western Australian public school within 12 months of completing the teaching course.

The Bob Hawke Aboriginal Teacher Scholarships aim to increase the number of Aboriginal secondary teachers in WA to make sure schools are culturally inclusive environments.

They are named in honour of former Prime Minister Bob Hawke’s lifelong support of Indigenous rights, and his vision of a fair and inclusive Australia.

Applications close 18 March 2025.
