Arafura Games 2021 Planning Well Underway

Planning for the 2021 Arafura Games is well underway with the Minister for the Arafura Games Natasha Fyles announcing the membership of the Games’ Advisory Committee today.

The Committee is made up of Territorians who have promised to make the next Games bigger and better than this year’s spectacular return. The Territory Labor Government brought back the Games in 2019 after the CLP scrapped the popular multi-sport event in 2012.

The first role of the Committee is to determine which sports will be part of the program following a six-week expression of interest process which recently closed.

The 2021 Arafura Games will be held from 14-22 May.

Members of the 2021 Arafura Games Advisory Committee are:

· Louise Partos

· Judith O’Hearn

· Natalie Bell

· Anita Palm

· Nicole Brown

· Greg Bicknell

· Josh Sattler

· Sam Burke

· Kate Worden

· Andrew Hopper

· Tim Watsford

· Kate Walker

· Glen Hingley

Quotes attributed to the Minister for the Arafura Games, Natasha Fyles:

“The economic and social benefits that the Games bring to our community is significant – adding millions to our economy, providing work for businesses, highlighting investment opportunities as well as showcasing our sporting facilities, culture and lifestyle.

“The local and international response to the 2019 Games has been overwhelmingly positive.

“I would encourage the CLP to stop talking down this important event – the event they scrapped back in 2012 – and get behind the 2021 Arafura Games. The games are far too important for the Territory.

“I look forward to working with the Committee as we form the next amazing Arafura Games.”
