Armidale Powers Up With New EV Chargers

Armidale Regional Council

Four new electric vehicle fast charging stations will be built in Jessie Street, Armidale in the hope of fulfilling the increased demand from electric and hybrid vehicles.

Work is expected to start soon by Tesla on the construction of the four new V4 Tesla Superchargers, which are capable of 250kw charging speeds. They will be located in the Dan Murphy’s carpark off Jessie Street.

The new stations will be compatible to all EV’s and available for use one week after their official opening to the public, which is expected to be in the first quarter of 2025.

“By installing these new, fast EV chargers, we’re encouraging travellers to stop and spend time in our town, giving a real boost to local businesses like cafes, restaurants, and shops,” said Armidale Regional Council Mayor, Sam Coupland.

“It’s a win-win for both the environment and our economy. Fast EV chargers reduce the carbon footprint of travellers passing through our town as well as those who live here and choose to drive electric or hybrid vehicles.

“This aligns perfectly with our Brilliant Regions Strategy and our commitment to sustainability, helping us contribute to a cleaner, greener future.”

Mayor Coupland said the new fast EV chargers would see the city of Armidale become a prime stop off location for eco-conscious tourists.

“This not only enhances our town’s reputation but also attracts visitors who may not have considered stopping here before,” he said.

“Also providing fast, reliable charging infrastructure is key to encouraging more people to switch to electric vehicles. It’s all about making EV ownership more convenient and accessible for everyone.”
