Armidale Regional Council has been successful in securing $1.037 million of funding from the Australian Government to conduct gravel re-sheeting and bitumen sealing on twelve local roads.

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Stage 2 funding will see gravel re-sheeting on six roads, and bitumen sealing on six others over the next two years.

Armidale Regional Council General Manager James Roncon said this funding will ensure our local roads remain at the highest standard.

“These projects will boost the safety of our local roads and will improve the overall experience for drivers,” said Mr Roncon.

“It is our top priority to deliver the community with the highest quality infrastructure, and through securing this grant we are taking the steps to do this,” he said.

Council has received $637,217 for the bitumen resealing program, which will see works conducted on Starr Road, Yeoman Street, Wollomombi Village Road, Rockvale Road, Aberfoyle Road and Boorolong Road.

“These works will begin with heavy patch and shoulder works, which we aim to complete within this financial year,” said Mr Roncon.

“Once the heavy patches have settled for the required period, resealing will begin and we anticipate this will be complete by mid – 2023.”

The gravel re –sheeting program will cost $400,000, and will see works done on Old Ebor Road, Kilcoy Road, Old Hillgrove Road, Metz Road, Sandon Road and Dumaresq Road.

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, said the road upgrades would deliver multiple benefits for the Armidale region.

“Not only will this funding build better roads for our local communities, the construction work will keep local people in jobs and drive new money back into the local economy,” Mr Joyce said.

“This is further delivery for people in the New England.”

Works on these projects will be staggered over the next two years and are expected to be complete by the first half of 2023.
