Bayside Council Mayor Edward McDougall used a Mayoral Minute to congratulate the Arncliffe Scots Junior Rugby League Football Club on its 100th anniversary and acknowledge the significant contribution the Club has made to the local community since 1926.
Originally established as a cricket club by members of the Arncliffe Presbyterian Church in 1913, the rugby league branch was formed in 1926.
The club briefly ceased operations in 1941 when many of its players enlisted to serve overseas during World War II, before being successfully re-established in 1947 following the end of the war.
The Arncliffe Scots played their early matches at Earl Park in Arncliffe, a site recognised this year through Council’s Historic Markers Program.
Today, Arncliffe Scots Junior Rugby League Football Club holds the distinction of being the oldest rugby league club in the St George district.
Reaching a centenary is a remarkable milestone and reflects the dedication, passion and commitment of generations of players, coaches, volunteers, officials, supporters and families who have helped shape the club over the past 100 years.

“For 100 years, Arncliffe Scots have played an important role in bringing people together through sport, fostering community spirit, promoting healthy and active lifestyles, and creating opportunities for young people to develop skills, friendships and lifelong memories,” Mayor Edward McDougall said.
“Through times of change, the Club has remained a valued part of the local community and a source of pride for generations of residents. Bayside Council thanks everyone who has contributed to the success of the Club over the past 100 years and wishes the Arncliffe Scots continued success and prosperity for generations to come.”
