Arrest of drug and property offender at Sunshine Coast

Police search for an alleged property offender have located drugs, cash and firearms after tracking him to a Sunshine Coast unit block yesterday.

It will be alleged the man was seen driving a stolen Mitsubishi Lancer travelling along Edward Street at Alexandra Headland around 9.30am and was followed by police.

The vehicle eventually stopped on Alexandra Parade and the male driver allegedly fled on foot from officers.

The man was tracked by the Dog Squad to a nearby unit complex where a subsequent search uncovered drugs, cash, and alleged stolen property including passports and firearms linked to a burglary.

A 24-year-old Maroochydore man was taken into custody at the scene and was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary, obstruct police and unlicensed driving.

He was due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning (May 17).

A number of other people in the unit were also arrested and charged with drug and property-related offences.
