Northern Territory Police have arrested multiple youths after a number of incidents across the Darwin region over the weekend.
Around 5:20am on Saturday, police received reports of an unlawful entry at a premises on Malak Crescent, Malak. Police will alleged that one offender stole a Toyota Tarago and rammed the vehicle through a gate before fleeing the scene.
A short time later a several youths unlawfully entering a residence on Sovereign Circuit.
One of the offenders allegedly assaulted a 28-year-old male with a rock before stealing items from the location and fleeing the scene.
A short time later the same offenders attended a shopping centre carpark in Nightcliff where they assaulted a 36-year-old woman and stole her Suzuki Baleno.
A passer-by has assisted the woman as the youths narrowly missed running the woman over with her Suzuki.
Strike Force Trident, The Dog Operation Unit and general duties deployed to the area and at 7:45am the stolen Suzuki Baleno was located in Malak with five youths running from the vehicle. Two 14-year-olds and three 13-year-olds were arrested without incident.
The stolen Toyota Tarago was apprehended around 8.15am after a short pursuit on Yanyula Drive, where a 16-year-old was subsequently arrested, after the vehicle collided with a fence.
The youths are all expected to be charged later today with multiple offences including assault and drive motor vehicle without consent.
In a separate incident at 3:20pm yesterday, police received reports that 4 offenders had entered a business in Wulagi where they assaulted an employee, caused damage and stole numerous items.
The employee suffered a swollen eye-socket, bruising and cuts from the ordeal.
Strike Force Trident, The Dog Operations Unit and general duties deployed to area and begun investigations. Four females, aged 12, 12, 15 and 32 were arrested a short time later in Palmerston without incident. The 32-year-old has since been charged with aggravated robbery and the youth remain in custody and are expected to be charged later today.
Acting Sergeant Troy Easton said “The violent behaviour we saw over the weekend is completely unacceptable.
“NT Police commend the actions of the Good Samaritan who assisted the woman in Nightcliff, who was very nearly run over by the dangerous actions of offender behind the wheel of the Suzuki.
“Investigations are ongoing and detectives continue to urge anyone with information on any of the incidents from the weekend to make contact on 131 444. You can also report anonymously on Crime Stoppers through 1800 333 000.”
