Arson at Tennant Creek

Northern Territory Police are investigating a fire that broke out at Tennant Creek High School this morning.

Around 4am alarms were activated at the school alerting security, who on arrival found two doors in the building had been set alight and a considerable amount of smoke coming from the building.

Police and fire crews attended and found two 90kg LPG cylinders damaged with evidence of attempts to ignite the cylinders.

Investigators are treating the fire as suspicious and have declared the area a crime scene. Investigations into the circumstances continue.

Police urge anyone with information that may assist with enquiries in relation to this incident to call police on 131 444, or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and refer to PROMIS number 8924546.

Classes remained in place today and will continue to do so.
