Going beyond traditional legal technical skills training, Ashurst is pleased to extend the firm’s Virtual Experience Programme to incorporate employability skills with the launch of a new e-learning module focused on self-doubt and imposter feelings. The free virtual programme gives all candidates the opportunity to self-educate and develop valuable practical skills in order to equip themselves for work and job interviews.
The free virtual programme introduces students to the phenomenon of self-doubt and imposter feelings and its connection to social identity. Participants will develop a broader definition of “success” and “accomplishment” which goes beyond traditional measures like grades and learn how to identify their top achievements, unique strengths and practice speaking positively about their successes in an interview setting. The experience is hosted on Forage, an innovative, open-access platform that connects users with companies and law firms.

In addition to creating a degree of anguish and self-doubt, imposter feelings may in some cases limit professional choices or career advancement if they are not confronted. Our ‘You are Extraordinary’ module allows students to not only gain a better understanding of what imposter syndrome is, it also arms them with the tools to help improve their resilience should self-doubt or imposter feelings arise.”

With the launch of the new ‘You are Extraordinary’ module, Ashurst now offers 5 legal virtual internship programmes that immerse participants in the world of law and now the new content on employability skills, with a module on Personal Brand to follow in November 2021 and more in 2022. Since launching in August 2019, the firm’s Virtual Experience Programmes have reached nearly 6,400 participants globally, providing equal access to education and high quality learning resources to students regardless of background.
