Assault and wilful damage arrest and appeal at Yarrabilba, QLD

Detectives from Taskforce Maxima have arrested a man following investigations into an assault in a shopping centre carpark at Yarrabilba on November 7.

It will be alleged just before 2pm the man parked out the front of a chemist on Waldron Street alongside another vehicle.

He stepped out of a blue Mercedes Benz C200, taking a red baseball bat from the backseat of the vehicle and proceeded to smash a grey 2009 Holden Cruze.

The 72-year-old driver of the Holden Cruze received lacerations to his face, caused from when the glass shattered.

It is further alleged the incident arose from an earlier verbal altercation between the victim and a female passenger of the Mercedes.

Following the incident an investigation was undertaken by the Crime and Intelligence Command’s Organised Crime Gangs Group.

On December 15, police executed a search warrant at a Tamborine address where a 20-year-old man was arrested in relation to the incident. Drugs and property were also seized during the search.

The Tamborine man was charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed, entering a vehicle with intent, wilful damage, possessing property suspected as proceeds and four counts of possessing drugs.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who was at the shopping centre carpark on Waldron Street between 1 – 2pm who witnessed the events or has recordings to come forward.

The man is expected to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today (December 16)
