Assault in Benowa, QLD

Detectives are seeking witnesses and dashcam vision after an cyclist was assaulted in Benowa overnight.

Around 6.45pm a cyclist was headed north on Ross Street when he was struck in the head by something thrown from a passing vehicle.

At the intersection with Ashmore Road the cyclist has approached a silver SUV, which he believed the item was thrown from.

The male passenger exited the vehicle and began punching the cyclist before pushing him to the ground in front of cars which were forced to stop.

The altercation spilled into the intersection, and on-coming vehicles, and at one point the passenger threw the cyclists bicycle at him.

The female driver of the SUV, which had stopped on the other side of the intersection, approached the man and they fled the scene, stealing the cyclists backpack containing his phone and personal items.

Police are appealing to the man and woman from the silver SUV to make contact with them as soon as possible.

Detectives are also appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam vision to contact police. Police are wanting to speak with the driver of a white ute which attempted to stop the silver SUV from driving away or anyone who has further information.

The cyclist, a 36-year-old Gold Coast man received abrasions and bruising as a result of the incident.
