Assault police in Alice Springs 2 August

A police officer in Alice Springs was assaulted during an arrest on the weekend.

Superintendent Antony Deutrom said, “Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Patrick Road on Saturday night and were arresting a 37-year-old man who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“During the arrest the man allegedly kicked a police officer in the face.”

The offender, on arrest, was transferred to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The police officer was treated at the scene but did not require further medical treatment.

The 37-year-old will be summonsed to appear to face charges of:

  • Drink driving
  • Assault police
  • Resist police
  • Drive unlicensed.

“Our officers go to work to serve and protect the community. This sort of behaviour is not acceptable and offenders will be held to account.”
