Assault police in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are investigating an incident in which a police officer was assaulted with a tyre iron in Alice Springs last night.

Just after midnight police were responding to a domestic violence incident on Gregory Terrace when a passenger of a silver Holden Commodore is alleged to have thrown a tyre iron at attending police.

The tyre iron stuck a 30-year-old police officer to the back of the leg, causing immediate pain and non-life threatening injuries, before leaving the scene.

Inquiries led police to locating the vehicle and some of the occupants, however it appears the offender had gone into hiding.

Police investigations to locate the offender, continue.

Superintendent Antony Deutrom said “Assaulting a police officer is a serious offence, and rest assured we will be investigating the matter further to hold the individual accountable for their actions.”
