Assault Police – Karama

A Northern Territory Police Officer has been assaulted during an arrest in Karama yesterday.

In the early hours of the morning, members from Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit attended an address in Karama to make an arrest on an offender for a number of outstanding offences.

During the arrest, the 24-year-old male spat in a police officer’s face, with blood in the male’s spittle.

Once in the cage, the male spat again towards the same member, impacting his face.

The 24-year-old male remains in police custody and has been charged with:

  • 1 x Aggravated robbery
  • 3 x Trespass – entering without authority
  • 1 x Aggravated burglary – dwelling
  • 2 x Assault a member of the Police Force
  • 1 x Damage to property
  • 4 x Theft
  • 1 x Resist Police in execution of duty
  • 1 x Driving, riding, using motor vehicle without consent
  • 1 x Possess controlled weapon at night
  • 1 x Obtain property by deception
  • 1 x Breach order of suspended sentence

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said “Assaults on our police members is a despicable act and we will never tolerate it.

“Our members come to work every day and night to assist the public and help make the community a safer place, any form of assault on police will be taken seriously and offenders will be prosecuted.”
