Assault police – Regional NT

Two Northern Territory Police officers were assaulted in separate incidents while performing their duties last night.

In the first incident, a Police Auxiliary Licensing Inspector was assaulted when he intervened in a domestic dispute at a licensed premises in Katherine yesterday evening. The officer was allegedly pushed in the chest before the offender was secured with the assistance of security staff.

A 43-year-old man has been charged with domestic violence offences and assault police to appear in court today.

The second incident happened around midnight in a Barkly community. Members had arrested a 35-year-old woman for breaching bail conditions. She was conveyed to the local health clinic for assessment, where she allegedly spat at a police officer and health staff.

Assistant Commissioner Martin Dole said, “Luckily no workers were injured in these incidents but they are further examples of the disgraceful behaviour our members and other workers across the NT experience on a daily basis while they are just trying to go about their jobs.”
