Attempted armed robbery charges in Ayr, QLD

Police have charged an 18-year-old man following two separate incidents in Ayr on August 12 and 15.

It is alleged at about 12.15pm on August 12 a man entered a residence on Munro Street and assaulted a 37-year-old woman.

It is further alleged on the same day around 2.25pm, three men returned to the address and assaulted a resident and damaged property within the house.

Around 11.30am on August 15 it is alleged two men and two women attended the Munro Street address and forced entry into the house and damaged and stole property.

Police were conducting patrols in the area and attempted to intercept a silver Ford Falcon on Munro Street however the vehicle left the area.

The vehicle was sighted along the Bruce Highway and Woodstock/Giru Road and followed by police before a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed on the Flinders Highway in Oak Valley

Three people, including two women and a man, were taken into custody however the male driver fled the scene on foot.

An 18-year-old Ayr man has been charged with one count each of attempted armed robbery, burglary, enter dwelling with intent to use violence and two counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage.

Police located a 45-year-old man at an address in Betina Street, Ayr and he has been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, enter dwelling with intent to use violence, possess utensil, possess knife in a public place and two counts of wilful damage.

Both the 45-year-old and 18-year-old man are scheduled to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.

Two women taken into custody at the scene assisted police with their investigation and have since been released.

Investigations are continuing to locate the driver of the vehicle.
