Attempted murder charge, Gladstone area

Detectives have charged a 61-year-old man with attempted murder after he allegedly choked a woman at Burua early this morning.

I will be alleged around 4.15am the man attended a Brendonna Road residence and began to force entry to the back door. A woman, who is known to the man, fled the house via the front door. The man has returned to his vehicle and drove after the woman.

It will be further alleged when the man caught up with the woman, he punched her a number of times in the face and choked her until she lost consciousness.

The man then left the area.

The 57-year-old woman was transported to the Gladstone Hospital for treatment.

The 61-year-old Burua man has been charged with four domestic violence offences: attempted murder, assault occasioning bodily harm, choking and enter dwelling with intent to commit a indicatable offence.

He will appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court tomorrow, March 8.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has further information to contact police.
