Australia Day 2023

Edward River Council is preparing an inclusive day in the Waring Gardens. This year the activities will commence at 8.30am with a community breakfast prepared by Rotary and provided to all at no charge. In addition, the Edward River Concert Band and Sing Australia will provide entertainment leading up to the official ceremony at 10am.

Mayor, Cr Peta Betts, says she is delighted to announce our Australia Day Ambassador as Robbie Sefton, “Robbie is well known to many within the Edward River Council area, most recently assisting council in the formation of the overarching Edward River Council Strategic Plan”. “Robbie always brings passion and vision to the table and I for one are looking forward to her address”.

The Australia Day Ceremony will include the announcement of the Edward River Council Australia Day Awards including Citizen of the Year, Senior and Junior Sports Award, Arts and Culture Award, Community Event or Initiative of the Year and Environmental Citizen of the Year – Bill & Elwyn Hermiston Memorial Award.

The awards attracted a total of twenty-one very worthy nominations said Mayor Betts, “whilst making the decision-making process very difficult it also highlights how many within our community give back on a daily basis”.

Australia Day 2023 will run from 8.30am and continue through to 2pm with fully catered activities for young and old alike.
