Latrobe City Council has welcomed Australia Post’s significant investment in a new parcel facility at the Gippsland Logistics and Manufacturing Precinct in Morwell, marking an important milestone for the precinct and supporting the continued diversification of Latrobe City’s economy.
Australia Post broke ground today on its new 10,000-square-metre Morwell Parcel Facility, which will bring together Australia Post and StarTrack operations from Moe, Morwell and Traralgon in a modern, purpose-built hub.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson said she was delighted Australia Post had chosen Morwell for this significant investment.
“I applaud Australia Post for having the vision to consolidate their operations at the Gippsland Logistics and Manufacturing Precinct in Morwell, and for their belief in the future of Latrobe City,” Cr Gibson said.
“All round it’s great news for our community – it will support jobs, help us diversify the economy and shows that Latrobe City is a place where major businesses can invest with confidence.
“We’ve worked hard to create opportunities for new investment in Latrobe City and it’s fantastic to see a major organisation like Australia Post choosing to be part of this precinct.
“Having Australia Post as an anchor in the precinct will no doubt help open the door for further investment and new opportunities into the future.”
The Gippsland Logistics and Manufacturing Precinct is strategically located in Morwell with access to the Princes Freeway and rail infrastructure. It is a key part of Council’s work to attract new industry, investment and employment to Latrobe City.
Council has taken the lead in developing the precinct, working with the Victorian Government and Australian Government to invest in the infrastructure and opportunities needed to attract new industries and diversify Latrobe City’s economy.
The Australia Post investment is an important step in that work, with a major national organisation establishing at the precinct and strengthening its potential to attract further investment.
Council will continue to actively promote the precinct, work with prospective investors and create opportunities for businesses to establish, invest and grow in Latrobe City.
