Australia Post team digs deep to deliver impact to community groups nationally

Australia Post has awarded grants to more than 150 grassroots community and not-for-profit groups across Australia, with each receiving up to $2,000 in funding through its annual People of Post grants.

Totalling more than $290,000, the initiative sees Australia Post team members, including Posties and Post Office workers, nominate local not-for-profit community initiatives that support some of Australia’s most pressing social issues in the areas of: mental health, disaster support and resilience, Indigenous children’s literacy, and environmental sustainability.

This year, the funding available to individual groups doubled to be up to $2,000, ensuring the grants are able to make a tangible and lasting impact in local communities. The 152 grants have been awarded to initiatives across metro, regional and remote communities of Australia.

In 2024, more than half of the grants will support projects aimed at improving mental health and connection, while 23% went to groups supporting environmental sustainability initiatives.

Australia Post General Manager Community and Stakeholder Engagement, Nicky Tracey, said the seventh year of the program would once again help local organisations continue to make a positive impact on communities across the nation.

“At the heart of this initiative is Australia Post team members, who witness first-hand the incredible work community groups do every day across Australia. Our People of Post grants give them the chance to give back,” Ms Tracey said.

“At a time where cost of living is high, it’s great that Australia Post can help make a lasting impact to some of Australia’s most pressing issues. We also know community groups are pivotal in fostering a sense of belonging and making a positive difference to individuals every day, which is particularly important at a time where 1 in 7 Australians experience social isolation and loneliness 1

Since it launched in 2018, the People of Post Grants program has awarded more than 1,900 grants totalling more than $1.5 million. The Grants have supported many causes, including delivering intergenerational programs to tackle social isolation and loneliness in Victoria and planting initiatives to restore the habitat and healthy eco-systems for native animals in Queensland.
