Some of Australia’s most promising young badminton players have descended on Launceston for the 2026 YONEX Under 13 and Under 17 Australian National Badminton Championships.
The championships will bring together athletes from across Australia to compete for national honours and showcase the next generation of badminton talent.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, welcomed athletes, officials and families to Tasmania and wished competitors the best for the event.
“These championships showcase Australia’s emerging badminton talent, giving young athletes the opportunity to test themselves against the nation’s best and gain valuable experience on the national stage,” Minister Duigan said.
“For many athletes, events like this are a pathway to state, national and even international representation, making this an exciting opportunity to see the future of Australian badminton in action.
“It is exciting to welcome the next generation of Australian badminton talent to Launceston and see them compete at this level.”
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, said events such as the national championships bring visitors to Northern Tasmania while showcasing the State on the national sporting stage.
“Bringing hundreds of athletes, officials, families and supporters to Launceston is a great boost for the region’s visitor economy,” Minister Jaensch said.
“In between competitions visitors will have the opportunity to experience the best of Northern Tasmania, from our food and wine to our natural attractions and vibrant tourism offerings.
“We are building an even better events industry by backing in junior sport, regional events and community participation.”
The 2026 YONEX Under 13 and Under 17 Australian National Badminton Championship will run from 26 September to 2 October 2026 at the Elphin Sports Centre.
