Australians old and new to celebrate this great nation

Australia Day celebrations will kick off in the City of Whittlesea on Sunday 26 January at 6pm with music, kids’ activities, face painting and food.

As well as live music by Big City Beat and a musical performance by Rua, the deserving recipients of the City of Whittlesea Australia Day Awards will be announced.

Cr Emilia Lisa Sterjova, the Mayor of Whittlesea said, “these awards recognise the outstanding service of residents who have made a valuable contribution to our community.”

There are four award categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Access and Inclusion Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year

To ensure a safe event environment local traffic conditions will be altered including the closure of Findon Road between Ferres Boulevard and Civic Drive from 5-10pm and a reduction in the speed limit to 40kmph around the Civic Centre Precinct.

Pet owners are advised to ensure that their pets are kept safe and secure throughout the evening with fireworks due to light up the sky from 9.15pm.
