B Double driver charged with dangerous driving at Parkes, NSW

A truck driver has been charged with multiple driving-related offences alleged to have occurred in the state’s Central West.

About 10.45am yesterday (Sunday 9 August 2020), officers attached to Central West Highway Patrol were conducting a patrol of the Newell Highway at Parkes when they observed a B Double travelling north, about five kilometres south of Alectown.

Police will allege the B Double was swerving heavily from the north bound lanes into the south bound lanes, before momentarily leaving the roadway causing both trailers to sway dramatically.

Officers stopped the B Double in the main street of Alectown and spoke with the driver.

The man, aged 26, returned a negative result to roadside alcohol and drug tests.

He was charged with dangerous driving, negligent driving, drive without proper control of vehicle, not keep left of centre two-way road and drive not in S-T-C.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Parkes Local Court on Monday 19 October 2020.

Western Region Traffic Tactician, Acting Inspector Kelly Wixx of Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said all motorists have a responsibility to keep other road users safe when behind the wheel.

“Heavy vehicles have such a presence on our roads and as such a huge responsibility,” A/ Insp Wixx said.

“Lack of judgement can cause catastrophic consequences and significant devestation to other road users.

“This applies to all drivers, not just those of heavy vehicles.”
