Supporting local business and creating local jobs is one of the key aims of the Territory Labor Government.
This calendar year, the Northern Territory Government has completed more than 40 key projects, which have supported more than 3,000 local jobs in the construction sector, and delivered infrastructure which improves services, access and liveability for Territorians.
Quality of life upgrades have been made including the $10.5 million Nightcliff Renal Central, $5 million expansion to the Chemotherapy Chairs at Royal Darwin Hospital, and $3 million for the Hydrotherapy Pool at Palmerston Regional Hospital.
Upgrades to schools, such as the $6.5 million to Tennant Creek Integrated Preschool, $4.6 million upgrades to Braitling Primary School, and $20.7 million Darwin High School redevelopment and expansion.
The new $30 million Palmerston Police Station also opened this year, along with the $8.5 million Katherine Fire Station.
Projects range from the bush to our urban centres, including:
· $38 million Gunn Point Road
· $35.5 million Big Horse and Little Horse Bridges
· $25 million for upgrades and new Rugby facilities at Warren Park
Between July and October of this financial year, the Territory Labor Government has awarded 181 construction contracts valued at $256 million with 99.45% of these going to local businesses.
These projects are supporting more than 1,300 local jobs. Some of these works include:
· $58 million for Stage 1 upgrades to the Keep River Plains Road in the Katherine Region;
· $54.1 million upgrades to the Arnhem Highway, at the Adelaide River Floodplain;
· $12 million for improvements to the Tablelands Highway in the Tennant Creek Region;
· $6.7 million Central Valley Stage 1 at the Litchfield National Park;
· $6.6 million Headquarters for Bushfires NT at Acacia Hills;
· $6.3 million for twelve remote houses at Borroloola;
· $5 million for ten remote houses in Elliot;
· $2.7 million for Myilly Point Precinct in Darwin;
· $1.6 million upgrades to the Sandover Highway;
· $1.2 million to deliver extensions to Harts Range Health Clinic;
· $517,000 for new playground equipment and refurbishments to Nhulunbuy Primary School and Preschool;
· $447,000 upgrades to Nathan River Road in Katherine;
· $300,000 upgrades to Yirrkala School; and
· $124,000 upgrades for Epenarra School.
An investment in strategic infrastructure and a steady pipeline of projects will continue to support the construction and civil industries and provide economic growth to the Territory.
As stated by the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Eva Lawler:
