Territory clubs and associations can now access new government support to strengthen their governance and long-term sustainability under the Stronger Associations Program.
The program offers governance health checks delivered by Matrix on Board and governance information sessions delivered by Treeti Business Consulting – both available face-to-face and online.
The support complements the Government’s broader review of the Associations Act 2003 to keep the legislative framework effective, contemporary and fit-for-purpose.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government is making it easier for local clubs and associations to operate, with a new package of support now available under the Stronger Associations Program.
Incorporated associations are a cornerstone of the Territory’s community, culture, and economy – from sporting and arts groups to cultural and community organisations, largely led by volunteers. Backing the organisations at the heart of Territory life is central to restoring our lifestyle and keeping the Territory open for business.
The program helps associations lift their governance capability, support long-term sustainability, and strengthen compliance with the Associations Act 2003, in partnership with Territory businesses experienced in the not-for-profit sector.
Governance health checks by Matrix on Board provide an independent review of an association’s governance and sustainability, helping identify risks, strengthen decision-making and improve performance. Governance information sessions by Treeti Business Consulting build knowledge and skills across governance fundamentals, financial management and reporting, updating constitutions, and regulatory requirements – reaching regional and remote communities. Both are available face-to-face and online.

Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill said the program was another step in making 2026 a year of growth, certainty, and security for the Territory.
“Our incorporated associations are a cornerstone of our community and our economy. For these organisations to keep delivering for Territorians, it’s important we back the volunteers who lead them,” Minister Cahill said.
Matrix on Board Managing Director, Sally Clifford said the program recognised the value of the Territory’s volunteers.
“The Stronger Associations Program recognises that volunteers deserve practical, accessible governance support that’s relevant to their needs, helping build stronger organisations and stronger communities,” Ms Clifford said.
