Balga – Historical Aggravated Burglary charge

Detectives from the Special Crime Squad – Cold Case Homicide have charged a 60-year-old Cloverdale man in relation to a historic aggravated burglary incident that occurred in Balga on 6 May 2011.
It will be alleged, about 10pm, the victim – a 38-year-old woman – was at an address in Balga when the accused entered the home and struck her on the head several times with a piece of wood.
The victim received a serious facial injury requiring hospitalisation.
An investigation at the time of the incident did not result in offender identification. Over 10 years later, in late 2023, improvement in forensic testing identified a suspect in relation to the crime.

A 60-year-old Cloverdale man was charged with one count of Attempt Unlawfully Kill and one count of Aggravated Burglary and Commit Offence in Dwelling.
He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, 15 February 2024.
Detectives believe this was a targeted attack and inquiries are continuing as to the involvement of other parties.
