Ballina Shire Road and Council Services Update Monday 4 April 2022

Update 1pm Monday 4 April 2022

ROADS UPDATE

The following roads have been reopened over the weekend. Water may remain in sections and overlap the road with tidal inundation. Traffic control may be in place. Council asks that motorists please obey signage and directions.

  • Tamarind Drive Roundabout @ Cumbalum – OPEN
  • Tamarind Drive between Deadmans Creek and Gallans Roads – OPEN
  • Deadmans Creek Road @ Cumbalum – OPEN

Ross Lane remains CLOSED. Council understands prolonged roads closures are an inconvenience to the community, however it is important to ensure public safety.

Council crews will continue to inspect Ross Lane and will reopen it when it is safe to travel on.

There are still several roads across Ballina Shire with water over road and road closures.

The Burns Point Ferry remains CLOSED. Council is waiting for river conditions to improve before completing essential repair works. We anticipate the ferry will be back online mid to late this week.

POTHOLES

The recent weather has caused numerous potholes on local roads. Motorists are urged to drive carefully with these conditions in mind, and where possible avoid road hazards. Council crews will continue working to repair potholes and road surfaces over the coming weeks. Major potholes can be reported online via Council’s Community Portal at ballina.nsw.gov.au/CommunityPortal

WASTE UPDATE

Flood/storm waste

Residents with waste generated from flash flooding or storm damage during last week’s event can dispose of the waste for FREE at the Ballina Waste Management Centre on Southern Cross Drive (including green waste).

The centre is open 8am – 4pm seven days a week (excluding public holidays).

Please do not place waste from this current storm event on the kerbside. Residents who are unable to transport waste can contact the Waste Management Centre on 02 6686 1287 to discuss alternative arrangements.

Bin collection

Residents whose bins were missed last week due to flooded roads will have both waste and recycling bins collected this week on their usual collection day.

Bins along Houghlahans Road, Stokers Lane and Crosbys Lane will be recollected on Tuesday 5 April where it is safe to do so.

Bins along Ross Lane will be collected as soon as the road is open.

Missing bins

If you are in need of a bin replacement, please log a request via the Community Portal on ballina.nsw.gov.au/CommunityPortal or call 1300 864 444.
