Balmain Town Hall upgrade planned

Inner West Council

Inner West Council will inject up to $3 million over the next two years into a major revitalisation of Balmain Town Hall.

Initial works will urgently upgrade parts of the kitchen including electrical works for the hot water urn and stand-alone lighting in the hall kitchen. Council will also deep clean the bathrooms and kitchens and install signage for the bathrooms.

Stage one of the upgrade is on the ground floor worth $1.4 million will include:

• Library and ground floor upgrade

• Level one upgrades and renewal to improve access, functionality, comfort, lighting, and appearance.

• Building condition and compliance works

• And consideration of possible changes in building use arising from the civic precinct planning.

Stage two may require investment of an additional $2 million and include improvements on the first floor, but also include such things as a full roof replacement to alleviate a leaking problem which has beset the building in recent years.

Renewal of the solar system pending the outcome of building condition and roofing reports currently in progress is also likely to take place.

As one of the Inner West Council’s higher profile town halls, Balmain Town Hall will also be included in the Council’s plans for town halls to be opened up for use by the arts community.
