The annual Bay Sheffield Carnival is back again at Colley Reserve, hosted by the South Australian Athletic League (SAAL).

The event, held at Glenelg, is South Australia’s most prestigious foot racing carnival, expected to attract thousands of spectators and families over the two-day program.

Celebrating 137 years of racing, the event includes over 740 nominations from over 390 athletes including 100 interstate and one from the USA.

Event highlights include the feature City of Holdfast Bay 120m Women’s and Men’s Bay Sheffield as well as para-athlete races sponsored by Here to Home and PQSA.

The fields for the women’s and men’s 120m include some of Australia’s best pro runners, all competing for a share in $16,000 prize money.

The return of the women’s and men’s 120m para-athlete races will see Anu Francis and Sam Paech return to the track to defend their title from 2022. Renowned race-caller Terry McAuliffe will be calling the event.

The last day of action kicks off today from 10.25 am to 7.00 pm. Entry is free for spectators.

Like many South Australians, our family has a deep connection to the Bay Sheffield. It truly is a one-of-a-kind, exciting and much-loved event that is something we look forward to every year.

Beginning in 1887, the Bay Sheffield has such a rich history and has become part of the fabric of South Australia’s sporting calendar, bringing locals and visitors together to be enthralled by the magnificent running and the festive atmosphere at Glenelg.

Whether you’re making your way down the iconic Colley Reserve Track (as I did very slowly many years ago!), cheering someone on, immersing yourself in the history of the race, spending time with friends at this brilliant event for the first time or you do so every year, the Bay Sheffield has something for everyone.

I encourage people to get down to the Bay and check it out as it gets underway for its 137th year.

Thanks to everyone at SAAL and the many volunteers whose remarkable and generous efforts, year after year, make this event so special.

Bay Sheffield is one of the best carnivals in Australia.

The incredible track at Colley Reserve is like an amphitheatre as it allows crowds to get right up close to the racing. The atmosphere is electric!

Some of the best athletes from around Australia travel to South Australia to compete in races from 70m – 3200m.

It’s a great time for families and the community to visit Glenelg and watch an incredible two days of racing – in a highly anticipated and renowned South Australian event.
