Bay Street Summer Closure Trial: Bayside

Bayside Council is set to trial partial closures of Bay Street this summer following successful discussions with Transport for NSW, and lobbying by Steve Kamper MP, member for Rockdale.

“I’m very pleased TfNSW is ready to trial the partial closure, of Bay St to create a more pedestrian friendly environment around our foreshore this summer,” Bayside Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

“Officers from Transport NSW have agreed to work with Council to trial a series of weekend closures of Bay Street over the coming summer.

“I would also like to thank Steve Kamper the local Member for Rockdale, who has worked tirelessly campaigning and lobbying for the Bay Street closures,” Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

“This is wonderful news, we know our community is fed up with the hooning and anti-social behaviour that occurs in Brighton, especially on weekends,” said Steve Kamper MP, member for Rockdale.

“The closure of Bay Street will not only address those issues, it will also allow our local businesses to expand their trading footprint to create a wonderful entertainment and dining experience.

“This is a great outcome for our residents, businesses and the many visitors that come to enjoy our beautiful foreshore. I’m really looking forward to summer.”

Updates on the closures will be provided on Council’s website and social media.
