Nominations for the 2027 Bayside Citizen of the Year Awards are now open, providing residents with an opportunity to recognise the extraordinary contributions made by local community heroes.
The annual awards celebrate individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in areas including community service, charitable work, education and school development, the environment, arts and culture, sport, and humanitarian initiatives.
The 2027 award categories are Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year.
Nominations close on Friday 6 November 2026, with the recipients to be announced as part of Council’s 2027 Australia Day celebrations.
Last year, Chelsea Holland was named Bayside Citizen of the Year 2026 in recognition of her ongoing involvement with The Regals Musical Society.
Grace Bula, aged 12, received the Sportsperson of the Year 2026 award for her outstanding sporting achievements, including representing the NSW Fijian Juniors Team at the NSW Junior Rugby Pasifika Cup.
Leanna Doan was named Young Citizen of the Year 2026 for her dedication to supporting the community through her involvement at school and volunteering activities.
Bayside Mayor Edward McDougall said:
“Our Bayside Citizen of the Year Awards are part of Council’s Australia Day program and provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate local heroes for the contribution they have made to our community,” Mayor McDougall said.
“Every year we are inspired by the dedication, generosity and community spirit of our nominees. I encourage residents to nominate someone they believe deserves recognition for the positive impact they have made in Bayside.
“These awards help shine a spotlight on the remarkable individuals whose efforts strengthen our community and make Bayside a great place to live.”
