Bayside Council will urge the NSW Government to take urgent action to improve pedestrian safety along the Princes Highway at Wolli Creek, following a decision at the Council Meeting on Wednesday 26 August.
The Princes Highway is a busy state arterial road that Wolli Creek residents regularly cross to access parks, shops and public transport. Bayside Council has consistently advocated for improved pedestrian safety measures in the area and is calling for immediate action to address ongoing community concerns.
Council will also call on Transport for NSW to complete its traffic and pedestrian safety review and work collaboratively with Bayside Council to implement safety improvements, including:
- Reinforced pedestrian fencing, railings and protective bollards.
- Improved pedestrian channelisation and fencing.
- A review and optimisation of traffic signal sequencing and pedestrian crossing times.
- A review of vehicle turning movements and traffic queuing at the Princes Highway and Brodie Sparks Drive intersection.
- Improved signage, road markings, lighting and other traffic-calming measures.
In addition, Bayside Council will write to the NSW Minister for Roads, the Minister for Transport, and Transport for NSW seeking a clear timeframe for the completion of the safety review and details of when immediate safety measures will be implemented.
