Bayside residents deserve roads that are safe, well maintained and fit for purpose.
Yet concerns about potholes, deteriorating road surfaces and road safety continue to be raised by our community on some of Bayside’s busiest state-managed roads, including Hampton Street, Bay Road, Beach Road and South Road.
That’s why we are calling on the Victorian Government to improve maintenance of state-managed roads and invest in priority road safety initiatives across our municipality as part of our state election advocacy priorities.
We are seeking more responsive and effective maintenance of state-managed roads, along with funding for a range of road safety improvements.
This includes improving road safety, reducing risk and ensuring residents can move safely and efficiently throughout Bayside. Specifically, we are calling for:
- Fixing problematic state-managed roads such as Hampton Street, Beach Road, South Road and Bay Road.
- Improved ongoing maintenance of state-managed roads across Bayside.
- 40km speed limits on Hampton Street applying over more of the day.
- New pedestrian crossings at Bluff Road (at Tulip Street), the Esplanade (at Wellington Street, Beach Road (near Keys Street), and Bay Road (near Tibrockney Street)
- Stronger communication channels between Council and the Department of Transport and Planning to identify and resolve road issues more effectively.
We are also calling on the Victorian Government to honour its commitment to fully resurface Hampton Street to Ludstone Street, with only a portion of the promised works completed so far.
Road assets play a vital role in supporting the safe, efficient and sustainable movement of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians throughout Bayside.
Improving the condition and safety of state roads would help reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, improve traffic flow and support access to local businesses, services and community facilities.
Bayside Mayor Cr Debbie Taylor-Haynes said residents expected roads to be safe, reliable and well maintained.
“Residents tell us about these roads all the time because they use them every day,” Cr Taylor-Haynes said.
“We’re calling on the Victorian Government to invest in the maintenance and safety improvements Bayside residents deserve.
“The state election provides an important opportunity to secure commitments that will improve safety, connectivity and road conditions for Bayside residents.
“We’ll continue advocating for the investment, maintenance and safety improvements our community deserves.”
Our advocacy on behalf of the Bayside community is focused on important projects and priorities in the lead up to the 2026 State Election.
We welcome the recent commitment of the Victorian Liberals and Nationals to spend $5 billion to repair and rebuild Victoria’s roads, including elimating 1 million potholes.
