Bayside Council is making it easier for residents to stay informed about major development proposals by launching a dedicated online hub for State Significant Developments (SSDs) in the local area.
The new website feature will provide information on SSDs currently on public exhibition, helping residents understand the process and have their say.
State Significant Developments are major projects assessed by the NSW Government rather than local councils due to their scale and potential impact. The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) manages the assessment process, with the final decision made by the NSW Minister for Planning or their delegate.
During public exhibition periods, community members can provide feedback directly to DPHI through the NSW Government’s consultation process.
While Bayside Council can provide advice on local planning matters, infrastructure and community impacts, it cannot accept submissions or determine the outcome of SSD applications.
The new online hub will allow residents to:
- View current SSDs within the Bayside local government area
- Links to the projects and where to make submissions
By bringing this information together in one place, Council aims to improve community awareness of major developments and make it easier for residents to participate in the planning process.
