Detectives attached to Taskforce Newstead are seeking information regarding a robbery incident in Beckenham last night, Wednesday 4 September 2019, during which a large number of firearms were stolen.

About 7:00pm an 81-year-old staff member from the Barry & Sons Firearms shop on Clapham Street, Beckenham left work about 7:00pm. While stationary at the intersection of Albany Highway and Austin Avenue in Beckenham his vehicle was struck from behind by a white van.

Both vehicles stopped around the corner from the crash location, and at this time the victim was kidnapped and placed in the rear of the van. The victim, who was restrained, was unable to escape. The victim

was driven to the store where two men involved in the incident, pictured, stole a large number of firearms and an amount of ammunition.

The van is believed to be a Mercedes Sprinter or similar, and had registration ‘PH 10279’. The number plates were stolen from a vehicle earlier in the day, and it is likely they are no longer on the van.

Police were alerted to the incident about 8:00pm when a hold-up alarm was activated. Police attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital as a precaution due to his age. He received no serious

injuries and it is believed he was held against his will for approximately 40 minutes.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, the crash, or who recognise the men or van pictured is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at

www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

Police would like anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Clapham Street Beckenham from 4pm onwards or saw the traffic crash, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au All reports to Crime Stoppers can be made anonymously and rewards are available.
