Tulgeen Disability Services is providing purpose-built accommodation for people with disabilities at its Elliot Lane Apartments in Bega.

Elliot Lane Apartments: a Tulgeen Disability Services Housing Project

Funded by the NSW Government, the Elliot Lane Apartments – built with a community centre, shared accommodation and six separate units – focus on inclusivity with functions such as wind-down bench tops that are easily accessible for people using wheelchairs.

Julie Driscoll is among the people to benefit from the facility sharing an apartment that offers full-time care that caters to her specific needs.

For her sister, Marie Farram, the opening of the Elliot Lane accommodation meant the end of a long search for a suitable home for Julie that’s closer to her family support network.

“It’s hard to describe how excited I was that this place was being built. When the government gave us the grant to build this place, it was just amazing,” Ms Farram said.

Donna Langbein, Team Leader at Elliot Lane, said the new accommodation is significant for the Bega district.

“To have a facility like this where we can have so many high-needs people in one place is amazing,” Ms Langbein said.

“We’ve got good staff here, and just to be able to take care of [our clients] in new facilities is really amazing.

“The clients here are just lovely, they’re happy here, and we’re happy here, so it’s got it all.”
